"Why is it that some people have external objects, cars, motorcycles, boats, collections of things, etc. that they take care of with extraordinary care, yet, it seems like so few take care of the physical object that is most central to our lives, our body?"

That's so great! Totally my area of interest, health care! But, I'm going to take a different angle (as opposed to the obvious, arguing about the healthcare system, health/wealth correlations and so on)... what about the flip side of that? The plastic surgery industry... where people treat their bodies like cars, or a thing that they can upgrade like everything else in their lives? Where does that fit in?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question, and I would agree. Interestingly the taking care of the outside with the plastic surgery would be a lot like taking care of the external appearance of the car without minding the engine and interior, which really allows the car to run and fulfill it's purpose of moving people from point A to point B. Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteVery "Hmmm". I can see how this argument would fit into the Venn diagram of physical objects and health. Great response though, in tying them together how you did! Preventative care is definitely more valuable that external appearance based care, in a long term sense (self-esteem issues aside). :)
ReplyDeleteKeep writing! I love reading your blog-- great questions!
